Meccaniche Veneziane Nereide GMT + Strap Guide

The amazement was great among Meccaniche Veneziane fans, when the long awaited GMT model was published. The Kickstarter campaign was crowdfunded within only 30 seconds and shows, that the new Nereide GMT Dive Watch is clearly one that is being anticipated by watch collectors worldwide. The name of the watch is a tribute to the Venetian submarine called Nereide which was built in the Royal Arsenale in 1913 and commissioned to the engineer De Bernardis by the Royal Navy during the First World War. The timepiece recalls the design of WWI submarines and bears a water resistance of 200 meters. Finally our team at Watchbandit had the opportunity to get hands on a Nereide GMT Diaspro PVD, which is reviewed in this blog post.

(18 cm/7″ wrist circumference)

The Meccaniche Veneziane Nereide GMT dive watch has a nice wrist presence with its case diameter of 42 mm, yet it isn’t too large for a 18 cm / 7″ wrist. The case is made of 316L Stainless Steel and the Diaspro PVD model has an entirely black coated case. Physical Vapor Deposition describes a vacuum deposition method, which can be used to produce coatings. This makes the watch look stunning on a black strap, like our WB Original Black Canvas shown in the pictures. The watch comes in a large variety of bezel- and dial colors, like the famous “Pepsi” bezel which is on the watch in our review.

Golden indices and hands provide a great readability, even during the night. The watch features C1 Swiss Superluminova® on indices, hands and bezel-dot, seen in the lume shot below. The overall finish on the watch is great and printings on the dial are clean and good to read. The dial featured a polished Logo, that gives it a nice eye-catcher. The new generation of the Nereide GMT has a more narrow triangle on its GMT hand, which suits the hands and indices on the watch much better than a larger/broader triangle on the hands ending. The red color of the GMT hand helps the wearer to sport the set time of the second time zone quickly and without mistake.
