Learn about Watch Brands
If you are new to the luxury watch world, you might want to first learn what the major watch brands are in the world. I’m certain you’re already aware of the major watch brands because of their amazing marketing such as Rolex and Patek Philippe or even some micro-watch companies. Many watch blogs have dedicated parts to specifically discuss various watch brands or to shine the light on one specific brand.
According to ablogtowatch.com, the most popular brands on their blogs are Casio, Breitling, and Citizen. That means that these watch brands get the most readership; however, Omega is very popular among Fratello Watches’ blog posts (www.fratellowatches.com).
Each watch blog will have specific watch brands they like to discuss due to their specific expertise. If you do not know which watch brands make specific watches/watch models, you can learn just by reading about the watch brand itself in those articles.
Watch reviews are a great way to familiarize yourself with a new watch or watches that are harder to get your hands on. I enjoy watch reviews because instead of looking on the specific watch brand side, I am learning about the watch from someone else who is passionate about watches, and it might not be a biased watch review compared to a salesman of that watch brand.
Watch reviews are very valuable for people who are looking to get more familiar with the specific watch brand. When I think about adding another watch to my collection, I start with the watch reviews first before I decide on the watch I might want to get.
When I know which watch I like, I start looking for the buyer’s guides to make sure I know what to look out for on that watch, because there are many things you should know before you buy a watch online.
Watch buying guides
When you are looking to purchase a specific watch, you’ll want to learn about the timepiece you are interested in. In many cases, watch buying guides are very detailed, and they help you to make an educated decision, for example, when I was looking for a specific Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.022, which has SO many different variations ranging from different bezels, case backs, dials, and more. While I was looking for the right watch buying guide, I found Fratello Watches had a fantastic watch guide for this specific watch. That blog post was super helpful and helped me to learn much more about that particular Omega Speedmaster.
When you are buying a luxury watch, you always want to make sure that you know what to look for. The watch buying guides are amazing places to learn more about the watch, and they help you to minimize the potential mistake of buying a fake watch. Take your time (pun intended) and learn!
If you are one of those people who likes to know what’s happening in the watch world, you should definitely follow several watch blogs. Watch blogs are a fast source of information about watches and watch news. When a watch company publishes a new story, there will be many watch blogs jumping on the opportunity to talk about that story first.
As a matter of fact, a recent blog post announced that Grand Seiko would not be part of the Basel World in 2020. Since the blog post went live, there are several discussions about that news.
I would highly recommended that you follow or subscribe to some watch blogs to stay on top of new topics and trends happening in the world of watches.
Wait, I don’t like to read blog posts; what are my other options?
If you do not enjoy reading, you can watch various Horological YouTube Channels or listen to podcasts. These are great alternatives to learning more about watches and horology.
Let me give you an example… let’s use the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean fro example… remember there’s a few variations; go to YouTube and type in the search bar “Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Review”. Sit back, and allow yourself to fall down the rabbit hole! You’ll gain a lot of knowledge, insight, and be exposed to different opinions.
If podcasts are more your style, look for “watches” or “horology”. You may be pleasantly surprised at what comes up!
There are many options out there. You just need to know how you want to absorb the information. So my suggestion, try each format and see what you like the most!
